Driving-hour rules and second drivers

Every country limits how long a coach driver may work. A day longer than the limit needs a second driver or an overnight stop. The estimate on each search adds the second driver automatically.

In the EU and Switzerland (Regulation (EC) 561/2006 and equivalent Swiss rules): at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, and 11 hours of rest — so one driver's day ends about 13 hours after it starts.

In Japan a coach driver's working day is limited to 13 hours, and long daytime runs by one driver are capped at about 500 km.
