Rome Fiumicino airport transfer for groups

Published

Fiumicino (FCO) is Rome's main airport, about 32 km from the centre. A private coach takes the group and its luggage straight to the hotel area, or to the cruise port at Civitavecchia.

Before you travel

  • Send the flight number and the number of passengers and large suitcases.
  • Most international flights use Terminal 1 or Terminal 3; check yours on the day.
  • Give a contact number for the group leader that works in Italy.

Meeting the driver

After baggage claim the group meets at an agreed point in arrivals, and the driver usually walks everyone to the coach parking area. Allow about an hour from landing for passport control and luggage, more for big groups, flights from outside the Schengen area or when several flights arrive together.

Into Rome: the limited traffic zone

Rome charges tourist coaches a daily permit to drive into its coach zones, and the historic centre itself is closed to most tourist coaches. Coaches stop only at official coach points, so hotels in the old town are often reached on foot from the nearest stop. Whether your drop-off needs a permit depends on the hotel's address; the final price we send before any payment states it.

Without traffic the drive is about 40 minutes; allow more at rush hour.

Straight to the cruise ship

Many cruise groups fly into Fiumicino and sail from Civitavecchia, about 60 km north-west. Go directly from the airport to the port on embarkation day, and aim to arrive inside the check-in window on your cruise documents.

Back to the airport

For flights within the Schengen area allow at least 2 hours at the airport, for flights outside the Schengen area at least 3. Agree the pickup time with the driver the evening before.
